About me

Caryn McCarthy Epps

See the light in others and treat them as if that is all you see.” – Wayne Dyer

My name is Caryn A. McCarthy Epps, and the above quotation from one of my counseling mentors best describes my commitment to counseling and service to others, and is a representation of the proud therapist and educator that I am today.

I have worked as a school counselor for 27 years in providing academic, post-secondary, and personal counseling for high school students.

I received my master's degree in School Counseling from the College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York. I am an active member of Michigan Mental Health Counseling Association.

I began my educational career working at the Board of Cooperative Educational Services in New York working with students with disabilities. I moved to Michigan in 1996 and took a position as school counselor at Ladywood High School.

I worked part time at New School High in Plymouth, MI. New School High was an innovative charter school in Western Wayne County that focused on deep learning, personal growth and community education. I worked with a great group of educators who shared my commitment for helping students reach their academic potential and personal best.

I worked as a vocational counselor for the State of Michigan/Michigan Rehabilitation Services. I assisted in developing and implementing programs for students with disabilities. I have served as a consultant and facilitator to help provide quality programs for students.

I am a proud board member of the Livonia Save our Youth Coalition. I work with a wonderful group of people who educate and empower the community regarding the health and safety of our young people with a focus on alcohol, drugs and other teen issues.

I am the mother of four sons, and including my husband, they are the starting five for my basketball team, for which I am called Coach Caryn. I consider myself to be your educational coach and will cheer you on for many successful and healthy school years. As a mother, I have lived through many of the same challenges our young people face today.

I have been truly blessed to work with thousands of students as a school counselor, job coach and mentor for the past 27 years.

Sincerely,

Caryn A. McCarthy Epps, MA, SCL, LPC, NCC
